Staff Reporter DINDIGUL: Action had been initiated against lorries used for smuggling rice meant for public distribution system, said Collector R. Vasuki here on Tuesday. Permits of two heavy vehicles were cancelled as per from the Regional Transport Office. RTO authorities have also directed their counterparts in other districts for cancellation of permits of vehicles used to smuggle rice in Dindigul district. A list of those vehicles was given to the respective RTO offices for immediate action, she added. Licences of 32 heavy vehicles that did not pay tax properly were also cancelled. Of these, 14 were lorries, one maxi cab and two national permit vehicles in Dindigul, 13 lorries in Palani and two at Batlagundu. A sum of Rs.80,888 was collected from them.
