The Tamil Nadu Government has urged the Centre not to sanction new irrigation projects or expansion of the existing ones, mooted by Karnataka, in the Cauvery Basin. Aimed at defending its irrigation interests in the Cauvery Delta, Tamil Nadu has also requested the Government of India to advise the Union Planning Commission to ensure that no project in the Cauvery Basin is included in Karnataka's proposals for new irrigation schemes.
