Little risk of quake near N-plants : Most of the active faults near the Tsuruga Peninsula in Fukui Prefecture--home to many nuclear power plants--are unlikely to trigger earthquakes in the near future, according to a study by the prefectural government and the International Trade and Industry Ministry's Geological Survey of Japan. According to the study, most of the faults were active about 335 to 680 years ago, and there is only a small possibility that they will trigger earthquakes in the near future. The results of the study are to be released at a meeting of the Seismological Society of Japan now being held in Fukui.
