Protection against Lyme diesase works : Lyme disease vaccines can prevent the tick-borne infection in most people who take it, say two new studies. But experts warn that even with an effective vaccine, it is not a good idea to go running barefoot through tick infested wilderness. Ticks, often referred to as cesspools of infection, carry more than one kind of disease-causing bug. In the trials, which involved more than 20,000 people, researchers found that the vaccines, awaiting approval by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration, prevented Lyme disease in most of the study participants.
