Sumitomo Corporation has raised the hackles of environmentalists by providing a multi-million dollar assistance for the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) dam project. After prolonged negotiation, Sumitomo has sanctioned a credit of 26,500 million Japanese yen to SSNNL, a Government-owned corporation set up to build the controversial Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river.
