Swazi govt spends $3m on 160 000 starving citizens

The government of Swaziland has spent $3 million on food for 158 000 of the 300 0000 people facing starvation due to drought, APA reports on Wednesday.Government Spokesperson in a statement issued this morning says this is an effort to make sure that Swazis are rescued from hunger. “Government will soon be implementing phase two (2) of the food distribution plan,� says Simelane. The Drought Mitigation Plan was launched two months ago, after drought was declared a national disaster by Prime Minister Barnabas Dlamini. Government hopes to acquire $23 million from donors to fully implement the plan over a period of five years.
