Swaziland has acquired a $1.4 million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the African Water Facility (AWF) for a feasibility study of a multipurpose dam, local media report here Wednesday.
Jean Michael Ossete, the AWF acting Coordinator says the overall access rate to drinking water in Swaziland is 74 percent while sanitation is at 54 percent, hence the need to assist in dam construction.
The water storage facility will also help in the agriculture and industrial sectors as it will be used for irrigation and hydropower generation.
The Chief Water Engineer, Trevor Shongwe told local media that the feasibility study will take 24 months to complete after the award of the contract.
