This is the village where Indira Gandhi laid the foundation stone of the SYL canal in April 1982. This is the village where the Akalis, led by Harchand Singh Longowal, Parkash Singh Badal and Gurcharan Singh Tohra, started their agitation against the construction of the SYL canal. A few months later in August, they shifted their agitation to Amritsar, rechristening it as the Dharam Yudh Morcha. Rest, as they say, is history. A stretch of one metre of SYL, canal here bears testimony to one of the most contentious inter-state disputes in north India.
