Recent scientific results show that the range and sophistication of the sensory capabilities of plants far exceeds what we had imagined. Experiments published this year reveal how some of these senses work, how sensitive they are and what a wide variety of responses they can elicit. These range from growing extra rootlets to exploit pockets of rich soil to calling the wasp police to deal with vandal caterpillars.
