Target for 24-hour power supply by the year 2013

A target has been set in Madhya Pradesh to supply 24-hour power to the rural areas by the year 2013. The state government has signed MoUs with 28 private companies for generation of 40 thousand megawatt power with a view to meeting this target. Madhya Pradesh Investment in Generation Project Policy 2010 has also been formulated for attracting private sector investors. Some of the private companies have already started work. They include Bina Power Supply Company, Bina, Essar Power, Baidhan in Singrauli district, Jaiprakash Power Ventures, Nigri in Singrauli district and BLA Power in Narsinghpur district. The Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company has also started work of 1200 MW Singaji Thermal Power Plant. Rs 292 crore has been allocated for this project during the current fiscal. The work of 500 MW Satpura Thermal Power Plant at Sarni has also got underway. Madhya Pradesh will get 242 MW power from NTPC's Seepat plant and 150 MW power from the unit at Moda. An agreement has been signed with West Bengal-based Damodar Valley Corporation for receiving 300 MW power. Due to the efforts made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the work of Maheshwar project has restarted. From here, the state expects to get 400 MW power by December. Efforts are being made to sign long-term agreements too include 1200 MW MoU with Reliance and 150 MW agreement with Essar. Another MoU has been signed with BHEL for establishing a 1600 MW power plant in Khandwa district. The National Thermal Power Company has signed an MoU for setting up a 2640 MW power plant at Gadarwara in Narsinghpur district. The Union government has been urged to allot 80 per cent quota of power from this plant to Madhya Pradesh. The National Thermal Power Company is setting up a 1320 MW power plant in Khargone district for which the state government has agreed in principle to provide 1750 acres of land and 55 quesek water. The NTPC has also undertook a 4000 MW project in Chhatarpur district. Administrative sanction has been accorded for setting up two 1600 MW plants at Chandia in Katni district and Bansagar in Shahdol district. Since coal linkage/block has not been allotted, it has been decided to hand over the 1320 MW power project to NTPC/NHDC.
