TB reservoirs is full, but water release curtailed

The BJP district unit threatened to launch a stir if the Irrigation Department went ahead with a plan to intermittently release water from the Tungabhadra dam in Karnataka. The BJP argued that a proposed ten-day gap a month in the release schedule would leave farmers farthest from the reservoir with dry land. This comes at a time when the dam is filled to capacity after a gap of four years. In previous years, whenever the dam was full, the Department used to release water for both kharif and rabi crops. But this time, officials are planning to enforce a stop in the release for ten days every month, said the BJP, which added that this arrangement was unacceptable.
