With operations in more than 130 countries and a staff of approximately 100,000, Shell is committed to providing ever-cleaner and more efficient fuels and oil products worldwide. One example of this commitment is the Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis plant in Bintulu, Malaysia. In operation since 1993, it is the first commercial facility in the world to use the SMDS process to convert natural gas into environmentally friendly, synthetic oil products.
