Around 10 independent power producers (IPPs) representing an estimated 7,000 mw, for which memorandum of understandings were signed by the Tamil Nadu government between 1992 and 1995 , have pulled out of their projects in the state due to one reason or the other. The reasons include changes in government policy on developing projects, co-promoters pulling out and technical non-viablility of these projects.
