The Dabhol power project is in the thick of controversy again, with Maharashtra State Electricity Board likely to go bust next year for having to pay for Dabhol power at rates as high as Rs 7 per unit. Naturally those who were opposed to the project in the first place are saying, we told you so. The Dabhol Power Company counters that its power is not so costly and that MSEB is going bust only because it is giving away power at highly subsidised rates and losing Rs 250 crore a month. MSEB and the Maharashtra government are themselves at loggerheads.
