The greening of BP seeds identity crisis

It's not easy being green. Or so BP Amoco PLC is discovering. Over the past few years, BP Amoco has broken with most of the oil industry and positioned itself as a leader on environmental issues. The company talked of efforts to build solar-power equipment, reduce its own carbon-dioxide emissions and most, significantly, shift its mammoth business toward reducing of cleaner-burning natural gas and away from crude oil.
