Was a boom, centred around potentially huge gas reserves in Hazira on Gujarat's west coast, a bubble? Four years after studies seemed to prove that Hazira was sitting on top of 16.8 billion standard cubic metres (SCM) of methane, most of the gas seems to have turned into-well, hot air. ONGC studies of the Hazira gas basin indicate that reserves could actually be as low as 3.8 billion SCM or less than 23 per cent of earlier estimates.
