Thermal plant threat to wetland

  • 12/11/1999

The ecological character of the Ropar wetland, about 45 km from Chandigarh is being adversely affected by Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant. If a report submitted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests by the Punjab Council for Science and Technology is any indication, the thermal power plant and the Nangal-based fertiliser units and paper mills continue to discharge effluents into the Sutlej, of which the wetland forms part.
