Thousands evacuated as Moz river under threat

More water flooded into the already swollen Zambezi River yesterday as pressure mounted on a major dam, forcing Mozambican authorities to step up efforts to evacuate thousands of people. Silvano Langa, director of the National Disaster Management Institute, said the Mozambique government had ordered the immediate evacuation of some 8000 to 10000 people in low-lying areas of Marromeu.
