Thousands join AGP rally against mega dam

GERUKAMUKH (Dhemaji), Sept 2: Thousands of people, including AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary and former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, today took part in a procession organized by the AGP in protest against the mega dam being constructed by the NHPC at the site of the Lower Subansiri hydroelectric power project at Gerukamukh in Dhemaji district. The protesters staged a demonstration near the site of the Lower Subansiri power project and shouted slogans against the NHPC and Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh. Before the demonstration programme, a public meeting was held at Pasoni Camp Tiniali. Patowary, Mahanta and other AGP leaders like Birendra Prasad Baishya, Kumar Dipak Das, Joseph Toppo, Atul Bora, Dr Arun Kumar Sarmah, Padma Hazarika and Utpal Dutta attended the meeting.
