U.S. researchers from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York examined the mortality rates of participants in a survey from the early 1970s, which recorded the daily food intake of over 10,000 American adults. Of the 3,300 who had died, the mortality rate was lowest among the group with the highest consumption of salt. The findings according to an article in The Lancet, "do not support current recomendations for routine reduction of sodium consumption".
