Tobacco use kills 10 lakh Indians per year

According to a report of the Independent Commission of Health in India 10 lakh Indians die prematurely from tobacco-related diseases every year. The reports says that tobacco is the single largest preventable cause of premature death, throughout the world and tobacco-related deaths would increase from the present figure of 3 million to 10 million by the year 2010.
