Toxic waste causes exodus in Cambodian town

Trucks brought soldiers to this seaport town on Tuesday to clean up an illegal shipement of toxic waste and hundreds of residents frightened of health hazards kept up an exodus to safer areas. The police confirmed that four people were killed in road accidents on Monday when more than 1,000 people fled Sihanoukville, bringing total confirmed deaths in connection to the waste shipment to five. A dock worker died myysteriously a day after cleaning the hold of the ship that brought the 3,000 tons of waste , believed to be comopressed industrial ash, from Taiwan to Sihanoukville about two weeks ago.
