The use of certain toxic chemicals and poisonous heavy metals associated with cancer, low intelligence, birth defects and male infertility will be banned or severely restricted under two international treaties just concluded in Geneva. The draft protocols, negotiated under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, will prohibit leaded petrol and ban production and use of some pesticides such as aldrin, chlordane and toxaphene.
