A senior official said yesterday that Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear station, the site of the world's worst peacetime nuclear disaster, was likely to shut in November 2000. Viktor Stovbun, executive director at state-run nuclear energy company Energoatom, told a news conference that repairs to the plant would cost $100 million, a sum the cash-strapped former Soviet state could not afford.
