A new UNDP project receiving $557,000 in funding from the Japanese government will support the spread of rural electrification in Syria through the use and development of solar energy and the provision of related training. Signed on 19 October in Damascus, the project is part of a larger $10 million programme being funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency that is developing and installing photovoltaic systems in Syria.
