Unemployment fears lead to health risks

Rumors of impending job loss can undermine a worker's physical health, according to a new report. "Threats to employment security have adverse (health) consequences," say researchers at University College London Medical School in London, England. Their report appears in the current issue of the American Journal of Public Health. A number of previous studies have examined the health effects of being fired. But only a few have been able to examine the effects of rumors of layoffs on worker health.
