Nine killed, all major rivers flowing above danger mark
LUCKNOW: Nine persons died due to rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday where the flood situation worsened due to a rise in the level of major rivers in several districts, affecting road and railway traffic.
Three persons died in Ramabai Nagar, two each in Badaun and Shahjahanpur, while Bareilly and Pilibhit recorded one death each, officials said.
The flood situation worsened further in the western districts of the State with 177 villages of Bareilly, Badaun, Pilibhit and Shahajanpur getting inundated after 40,000 cusecs of water from the Kalagarh dam was released into the Ramganga river.
The national highway connecting Delhi with Lucknow and the Bareilly-Badaun road remained closed in the wake of the floods which washed away the Narain bridge on Kiccha river. Flood waters also entered the Akashvani and Doordarshan centres in Bareilly.The Pauri-Delhi national highway has been closed for traffic due to floods in Muzaffarnagar.
The Ganga and Solani rivers were flowing above the danger mark in the district.
According to the Central Water Commission, Ganga was flowing at danger mark in Fatehgarh, Kannauj, Kanpur, Rae Bareilly and was rising at Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi and Ghazipur.
The Ramganga is flowing above the danger mark in Moradabad and Shahjahanpur and rising menacingly in Bareilly. The Yamuna is flowing above the danger mark at Mathura and swelling at Allahabad and Banda.
The Sharda river was flowing at the danger level in Kheri, while the Ghaghara is above the red mark at Barabanki, Ayodhya and Ballia. - PTI
