UP to implement irrigation project in stipulated time

The state government has assured the World Bank that Uttar Pradesh will stick to the time-table proposed by the funding agency for modernisation of Lower Ganga Canal Irrigation System Project. This assurance was given by Agriculture Production Commissioner Alok Ranjan during a meeting with World Bank team here on Thursday. Ranjan assured the World Bank team that the state would modernise the World Bank-funded Lower Ganga Canal Irrigation System Project as per the time-table agreed upon by the state and the financier. "The project in its totality will follow the time-table drawn by the World Bank," he funding agency team. The World Bank team apprised the APC of its findings during its visit to project area. The UP State Water Structuring Project Phase-II is a mega project involving an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. The project, which is scheduled to be implemented in the next seven years, aims at irrigation of maximum area with the available water by modernising the Lower Ganga Canal Irrigation System. The wrap-up meeting was attended to by Principal Secretaries of Minor Irrigation, Irrigation departments, Special Secretary (Minor Irrigation), Chief Engineer PACT, Director Remote Sensing and representatives of various other irrigation organisations. The World Bank team comprised experts like Winston U, Ben Obrein, Abhorwankar, MK. Goyal, Anju Gaud, Anupam Joshi, Shankar Narayanan, S Bal Gopal and Tanuj Mathur.
