US regulators are proposing that drug manufacturers should be allowed to advise doctors on the safety of 'off-label' uses of medicines. 'Off-label' uses are any for which the drug has not been specifically approved and tested. Doctors have always enjoyed the freedom in the US to prescribe whatever drug they see fit to a patient.
