US must embrace energy efficiency - report

The United States must adopt new conservation measures such as improved vehicle fuel efficiency if it is to ease its energy supply woes, a new report from an independent task force said last week. The Bush administration's plan to increase domestic energy supplies is not enough to tackle a squeeze that has sent gasoline and heating oil costs soaring and pushed California's power system to the brink of collapse, the task force organized by the the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and the Baker Institute of Rice University said.
