The State Government has given instructions to Zilla Panchayat officers to make better use of NREGS funds for rebuilding works in the flood-hit areas. So far, the State has spent Rs 770 crore out of Rs 2,300 crore, the target set for the State in the year 2009-10. RDPR Minister Shobha Karandlaje, on Thursday, in a video conference with Zilla Panchayat chief executive officers of flood-hit areas, told them to meet at least 50 per cent of NREGS targets by mid-November this year. Every district should take up works worth at least Rs 50 lakh a day. The minister asked the district-level officers not to summon taluk panchayat officers for meetings repeatedly.
