Setting an example of sorts for the effective afforestation drive, a small village, Chitanu, situated off the Jaipur-Delhi national highway, has successfully implemented the ambitious Village Forest Protection and Management Committee (VFPMC) scheme of the State Forest department. The establishment of VFPMC is part of the Aravalli Hills Afforestation Project. The village was the proud host to the 49th State-level Van Mahotsava today, in which the Amrita Devi memorial prozes for 1998 were given to a VFPMC and two individuals for their contribution to forest and wildlife conservation. The Van Prahari, Van Palak and Vaniki Pandit awards were also distributed on the occasion.
