It's back to basics for residents of coastal villages in Dumas area, who lift water manually from wells. Manual lifting of water from the wells has been made mandatory as the water drawn using electric motor pumps was saline. And ever since the voluntary ban was imposed, the villagers have been able to draw sweet water, despite the proximity to Arabian Sea. The wells in these villages are also a great leveller as both the rich and the poor draw water from them manually.
