Only 5 gallons of water per person in a day: Water would be one of the first and foremost crisis facing India in the new millennium with nearly 50 per cent of the Indian being forced to survive on five gallons per day per person by 2010, according to Rashmi Mayur, Director, International institute for sustainable future.The per capita availability of water had declined to one third during the past 50 years with one out of four Indians being denied access to safe and clean water, Mayur said in his paper on "Time for Renaissance: Challenges for India in the new millennium".
