NEW DELHI: In a city where one-third of the population walks to work, the roads and walkways are anything but pedestrian-friendly and present a pathetic story of neglect and worse, according to a new survey of Delhi roads carried out by the Centre for Science and Environment.
The survey, whose findings were released here on Friday, was conducted at random in representative locations across the Capital to assess the state of walking facilities, their engineering design, walking environment for pedestrians, and the exposure to traffic and safety.
Barring the much talked about Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in South Delhi where the walkways are designated, the findings point out to a policy of neglect towards pedestrians.
