Toxic Links (TL), a network of environmental groups working on the issue of toxic pollution said that the waste-to-energy plant being set up at Perungudi near Chennai was both expensive and clearly not suited for the city's waste. According to a TL statement the project has gone in for a pyrolysis-gasification process, which is a burn technology. It is not suited for the Chennai's wastes since it has a high organic and moisture content.
