Water 'might have to be imported'

The Centre today expressed concern over the continuous depletion of the water table and the progress of recharging water in several states. The Union Minister of State for Rural Areas and Employment, Mr BabaGouda Patil, cautioned if remedial measures were not taken to recharge water, the country would have to import the commodity. the minister expressed his views on the water crisis in the states in his review meeting of the Centre-sponsored Rural Development Schemes in Kerala with the state government officials and the local minister concerned.
