Collector K. Nagarajan ordered closure of five companies manufacturing packaged water in different parts of the district on the charges of pumping ground water massively without obtaining prior permission. In a release here on Tuesday, he said that three companies in Palani, one each in Reddiyarchatram and in T. Pudhukottai in Oddanchatram block were sealed. The company in Pudhukottai did not have proper licence to run the unit. It stored water in a large tank and manufactured water in bottles for sale. One of the companies in Palani dug a bore well in the land, one-and-a-half km away from the company, and pumped huge quantity of water without obtaining any permission, he added. The Collector conducted surprise raid in these places.
