You might get just 2 buckets a day: India will have to pay a heavy price in the first quarter of the new century for having failed over decades to evolve an equitable water policy and for years of unchecked deforestation. While the entire world is facing a shortage of water, the scenario is particularly grim in India. A Study by the International Water Management Institute says India will be the country worst hit by water scarcity in the next 25 years. The World Bank, in a report, said India was the country with the least water available per capita. The Worldwatch Institute spelt out the consequences of India's water shortage by reporting that it can reduce harvests by 25 per cent.As if these statistics were not bad enough, according to the United Nations, a reduction in the harvest will push up death rates due to starvation.
