WB okays Rs 1,650-cr project

The World Bank has cleared the Rs 1,650-crore Third Tamil Nadu Development Project (TNUDP-III), for which it has sanctioned $300 million (Rs 1,305 crore).Among other things, the project will fund water supply and sanitation schemes, laying of underground sewerage lines, storm water drains and roads, solid waste management and street lights in 107 urban local body (ULB) areas.A significant component of the project is widening of access roads in the Greater Chennai Metropolitan Area and constructing fly-overs and underpasses. In addition, road congestion will be addressed through improved traffic management.
