The Indian Electricity (West Bengal Amendment) Act, 1994, which has received the asent of the President and come into force with effect from August 13, 1998, is all set to be the centre of a controversy and legal battle. For, the Act has put a complete bar on the jurisdiction of courts, including even the Supreme Court, in cases relating to disputes between the supplier and the consumer over power supply.
