Abbot, the oil services group, is combining with PowerGen, the generator and electricity supplier, to create one of the UK's biggest wind-farm joint venture. The two groups intend to combine their skills to develop a new generation of offshore wind farms. The offshore schemes would be larger and more environmentally acceptable than onshore schemes, which often attract considerable local opposition.
