The World Bank has terminated a $240 million loan, which had first been suspended, for the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB). This decision has been taken by the Bank following a collapse in talks with the MSEB. The suspended loan would be considered terminated on its scheduled expiry date of June 30, 1998. The total amount sanctioned was $350 million but the Bank had stated that the suspension could have been revoked if the MSEB had fulfilled some criteria.
