At last the first two units of the 240-MW Sharavathy Tailrace Hydro Electric Project were commissioned on May 15 after a long delay. A proposal regarding the Sharavathy Tailrace Project had been made nearly 35 years ago itself. However, several factors including the opposition from the environmentalists, legal battle and lack of proper perspective among the policy makers resulted in the delay.
