National meeting on natural disasters kicks off in capital
A national consultative meeting on management of preventing natural disasters that take place in the South Asian countries kicked off in the capital on Wednesday. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam attended the inaugural function of the meeting organised by the European Commission (EC).

China Mudslides Kill 20, With 42 Missing
Mudslides in southwest China on the weekend killed at least 20 people, with another 42 missing in the hilly countryside, official media reported. The torrents of mud and rock hit near Chuxiong city in Yunnan province, and in countryside near the province capital Kunming, toppling or damaging nearly 1,000 houses, Xinhua news agency reported.

At least 24 people have been killed and thousands evacuated in Honduras after days of torrential rain, landslides and flooding, rescue workers said on Wednesday. Mid, farwest rains toll at 41
Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall since Friday continue to claim lives in various mid and farwestern districts of the country. Thousands have been displaced while hundreds are still awaiting rescue in their waterlogged villages. In Kanchanpur district alone, the death toll has reached 15, with seven more reported deaths, most of them children.

42 dead as rain plays havoc in HP
Shillong, September 20 Heavy landslides and uprooting of trees after incessant rain in the last 48 hours have resulted in the death of 42 people in Himachal Pradesh. Shimla district alone reported a toll of 38 deaths from the town and sub-divisions like Rohru,Theog and Chopal. One person was killed after a landslide in Anni and five in Nahan.
