A glacier burst caused a second flooding in four days in Upper Hunza on Sunday, damaging orchards and villagers' property. The flooding suspended traffic on the Karakoram Highway. Last Thursday, the glacier's snout had blocked the regular flow of a river in Gulkhin village, causing a flood that disrupted life and communication in Gojal tehsil, some 145 kilometres north of Gilgit and close to the border with China. Traffic was resumed in the area on Friday after the Chinese engineers along with FWO personnel working on the KKH expansion project repaired the road.
Sources Irrigation Department have said that the deficiency of water in the canals of southern Punjab would be soon overcome. The water level in the dams has improved due to rains in northern areas and with the melting of ice on the glaciers. They said that the shortage of water in the sowing season of cotton would be removed within three to four days because now the water level in the dams is satisfactory. The water situation in the canals is better as compared to last month. The situation of water in more than 70 percent areas would soon come to normal.

It has been widely hypothesized that a warmer climate in Greenland would increase the volume of lubricating surface meltwater reaching the ice-bedrock interface, accelerating ice flow and increasing mass loss. We have assembled a data set that provides a synoptic-scale view, spanning ice-sheet to outlet-glacier flow, with which to evaluate this hypothesis.

Depending on the geometry and capacity of the subglacial hydrologic system, increased surface melting in Greenland over the coming decades may influence the ice sheet's mass balance.
