Mercury To Plunge Further To 10°C Soon Jaipur: Mercury continued to take a dip across the state on Sunday and many places witnessed a fall in maximum and minimum temperatures. People were seen putting on their warm cloths especially during evening and early morning hours. Plummeting mercury, coupled with a thick fog cover, threw normal life out of gear in the entire North India on Monday, with 24 more people succumbing to the chill in various parts of the region. While 20 more people died in Uttar Pradesh, four persons lost their lives in Uttarakhand, said officials. Delhi continued to shiver with the mercury below normal in the city by five notches to settle at 2.4 degrees Celsius, even as it rose from Sunday’s 1.9 degrees Celsius.
JAIPUR: Temperatures continue to plummet across Rajasthan and on Sunday two places recorded a minimum temperature of below 0 degree Celsius, while at least six places in the state recorded below 1 degree Celsius even as two people died in Bundi due to the severe cold. Churu in the plains and Mount Abu in the hills remained the coldest areas in the state, recording a minimum temperature of -2.2 and 0 degrees Celsius respectively, the Met said on Sunday. In Churu, where the minimum temperature was 2.2 degrees below freezing point, normal life was badly affected.

JAIPUR: The state government on Monday extended the status of scarcity affected areas to 3739 villages of 11 districts. These villages were given this status due failed rabi crop but the extension has been given after witnessing deficient rainfall. The relief activities in these districts villages will now continue till August 15, 2012. Earlier in March, due to failure of Rabi crop 'scarcity affected' was declared in Ajmer, Barmer, Churu, Nagaur and Jaisalmer districts.
