  • Work on Pink city's second theme park on

    JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has launched work on the second theme park of the Pink City at the Collectorate Circle here. The park will have a fountain of the shape of candle that will give an impression of lighting. A peacock garden was developed earlier as the first theme park of the city under the railway overbridge in Malviya Nagar here. The JDA will spend Rs.2.34 crore on constructing the new park, the foundation stone for which was laid on Saturday. New lighting system

  • Good news for Govardhan canal

    JAIPUR: There seems to be a silver lining for Keoladeo National Park amidst dark clouds this monsoon. The indications are that the finances for the construction of the Govardhan canal are forthcoming -- though in a trickle. Two members of the Rajasthan Government's Empowered Committee on Forest and Wildlife, V. P. Singh, MP and Rajpal Singh, who met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje have informed The Hindu that during their meeting she made a commitment to release an initial amount of Rs.15 crores to start work on the Govardhan canal.

  • Farmers hold rally against WTO draft in Jaipur

    JAIPUR: Hundreds of small and marginal farmers from 25 districts of Rajasthan took part in a rally organised here on Wednesday to register their protest against a mini-ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organisation planning to conclude the Draft Modalities on Agriculture in Geneva on July 21. The participants in the long march pointed out that the draft in its present form did not address the concerns of farmers and had failed to show any willingness of the developed countries to reduce their "trade distorting subsidies'.

  • New financial scheme for Rajasthan BPL families

    JAIPUR: Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday announced launch of an ambitious Bhamashah Financial Empowerment and Women's Prosperity Scheme to benefit over 50 lakh poor and disadvantaged families in Rajasthan, especially the women. Ms. Raje told reporters after presiding over a District Collectors' conference here that the scheme would bring socio-economic self-reliance to 21 lakh rural families living below poverty line, 32 lakh small and marginal farmers and a large number of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families.
