• The coastal road connecting Puri and Konark in Orissa passes through the Puri-Balukhand Wildlife Sanctuary.
• Sea turtles affected.
• The Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu has a wide road network.
• Associated with road deaths of small Indian civet, common palm civet, bonnet macaque, common langur and sambar.
• Great Nicobar Island has north-south and east-west highways.
• Mining of beach sand for roads has affected turtle nesting habitats.
• The Mumbai-Pune expressway will pass through coastal plains, Western Ghats and Deccan Plateau.
• Likely to fragment these ecosystems, and restrict wildlife movement and socialisation pattern of most species.
