Curb on smoking

in three months, lighting up a cigarette in Spain's domestic flights and inter-city buses will be regarded as a serious offence. The government has announced a decision to ban smoking on all domestic flights and buses, and impose tighter restrictions on trains and ferries.

Earlier, smoking was allowed on domestic flights longer than 90 minutes, smoking sections were permitted in buses and separation of smokers from non-smokers were less strictly imposed in ferries and trains.

However, the ban came under criticism from a group called Smokers for Tolerance, which described it as "another aggression'. Alvaro Garrido, the group's spokesperson, said it violated the rights of Spain's 10 million smokers.
